TOWARD A RENAISSANCE OF TERROIR WINES
"Allons ensemble vers une renaissance des appellations"

Seminar on “BIODYNAMICS, WINEMAKING FOR THE FUTURE”, presented by Nicolas Joly

Save the Date - 14 june 2004
The Metropolitan Pavilion, 125 W. 18 St. , NYC 10011

First ever tasting of biodynamic (and some organic) wines in America. The 70 participating winegrowers recognize that the relationship between soil and climate has a different “face” everywhere on earth. It is this understanding that led to the concept of appellation 80 years ago, as a guarantee that consumers would find the unique and subtle characteristics of a specific site in the wine they drink.

For the vines to capture the characteristics of their terroirs with their roots and their leaves (photosynthesis), the soil must be alive and the leaves must be free of synthetic chemicals. This is why all of these winegrowers subscribe to a charter that emphasizes (1) vineyard methods that pursue the true and inimitable expression of terroir and (2) cellar work that respects the high level of originality and unique characteristics of each terroir. All the growers in this group strictly avoid synthetic chemicals and ban viticultural and winemaking practices that falsify the unique expression of their terroir.
